She Said Boom (College)
Historic bookstore with vinyl roots
Toronto bibliophiles and hard-core collectors love this iconic used bookstore that specializes in historical, philosophical and politicalliterature.
Meet the owner:
She Said Boom is a pioneer of Toronto’s used book scene. Originally a partnership between Randy Harnett and his friend John Bowker, both curious collectors, the shop began as a new and used record store. The unique name is a song lyric from 1980s, all female post-punk band Fifth Column. John has since moved to Roncesvalles area and is focusing on vinyl records, while Randy, more of a bibliophile, specializes in literature of the historical, philosophical and political persuasions at the store’s original College Street location.
Behind the name:
The store name is from a song called “She Said, Boom” by Fifth Column, off their album “All-Time Queen of the World” - 1990 - Fifth Column is a Toronto all-female post-punk band from the 1980s
